Among the sites playing host to the annual programme of cultural and artistic activities to be held in Al Ain throughout 2017 is Al Ain Palace Museum, which will host the ‘My Heritage, My Responsibility’ series on Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th. The series aims to uphold the UAE’s intangible heritage by safeguarding it and passing it on to the next generations.
The programme, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), incorporates many tangible and intangible heritage aspects of daily life in the UAE. This weekend’s programme will host activities and demonstrations that highlight Traditional Medicine, Traditional Cuisine, and other traditional Emirati lifestyle elements.
The Traditional Medicine section, which gives an informative summary of traditional modes of treatment, types of illnesses and natural cures. It also covers the relationship of humans with the environment, and how to use that relationship for medicinal purposes. The section will provide audiences with the chance to learn about the UAE’s traditional medicine through a live event held in the museum’s courtyard featuring local practitioners of traditional medicine such as Al Hijama, Al Takhbeen and Al Tajbeer (splinting). Despite technological development and hospitals being equipped with the most modern medical devices and equipment, traditional medicine continue to be relevant and are considered as a viable option for several illnesses.
