Germany Records 692,613 Overnights From India

Destination Germany has emerged as one of the most favoured European destinations for Indian travellers, with 692,613 visitor overnights from India in the year 2015 making for a 6.6% growth over the year 2014. Owing to this steady growth, The German National Tourist Office, India forecasts a 8-10% growth for the year 2016.

‘On Demand Mobile Visa’ Service For UK

In partnership with UK Visas and Immigration, VFS Global announces the launch of the ‘On Demand Mobile Visa’ service for UK visa applicants in India. Through this service, applicants located anywhere in India and applying for visas to the UK, can complete the entire visa application procedure and enrol biometric data within the comfort of their homes or offices.

Indian Railways, First Semi-high Speed Train Launched

The train, which runs between Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Station and Agra, was flagged off on 5 April 2016. The Gatimaan Express will run six days a week (every day except Friday), departing Delhi at 0810 and arriving in Agra at 0950. The return journey will leave Agra at 1750 and arrive back in Delhi at 1930. Tickets are priced at INR750 (approx. US$11.30) for the coach class and INR1,500 for executive class.

Kerala Tourism's Mobile App 'Expressions' 

This Android app offers micro videos of Kerala art forms to substitute smileys. These are presented via the various classical art forms of Kerala like Mohini Attam, Kootiattam, Ottan Thullal, Chakiar Koothu, Seethankan Thullal, Kathakali.  The name of the art form and the artist can be viewed at the end of the video.  There is a provision for sharing these videos with social media apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. MTDC Offers Discounts At Resorts

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has announced special discounts for students, senior citizens, disabled people with over 40% handicap and defence and government personnel for their resorts and properties. "MTDC is offering a 20% discount to students in the age group of 6-16 years. The special discount will be applicable on tours organised by educational institutes in Maharashtra, and can be availed from Monday to Friday. A group of four students will be accommodated in a room at the MTDC resorts," according to a statement released by the MTDC.

STB, MasterCard Team Up For 'Fulfil A Promise' 

MasterCard and Singapore Tourism Board (STB) recently announced a new campaign to entice Indian travellers. The initiative was launched through a new digital campaign, #FulfilAPromise, featuring Indian actors Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. With this collaboration, MasterCard and STB will target Indian travellers to promote Singapore as a preferred travel destination this holiday season.

According to PwC report ‘The World in 2050’, the model projections of average annual real GDP growth rates for major economies highlight a likely moderation in growth rates after 2020. However, the moderation will be to a lesser degree for India in comparison with China.
